June 9, 2025:
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Customs Department, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police jointly conducted a significant crackdown on drug trafficking that resulted in the seizure of drugs and unaccounted cash valued at around Rs 55.52 crore in Manipur.
Over the course of the last few days, a concerted effort was made to dismantle a suspected drug network that was active in the area. Authorities verified that a variety of drugs, including heroin and methamphetamine tablets, were found in several different locations throughout the state.
During the raids, money thought to be the proceeds of the illegal drug trade was found alongside the contraband. In relation to the seizure, five people have been taken into custody and are presently being questioned by police. According to a senior DRI official, the operation was the outcome of ongoing intelligence gathering and surveillance. According to the official, "this joint action reflects our ongoing commitment to tackling the drug menace in the North East."
The accused will appear before the relevant court, and additional inquiries are being conducted to determine the entire scope of the drug network. "Such coordinated actions between central and state agencies are crucial in curbing the growing threat of drug trafficking in the border regions," the authorities added.
