Biological Diversity is of utmost importance.
Today, May 22, 2025, is celebrated as the International Day for Biological Diversity. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity and its role in sustaining life on Earth. Biodiversity is the foundation of a healthy and thriving environment, providing essential services such as clean air and water, food, and climate regulation ¹.
The theme for this year's International Day for Biological Diversity is "Be part of the Plan," which is a call to action to encourage governments, indigenous peoples, local communities, non-governmental organizations, lawmakers, businesses, and individuals to highlight the ways in which they are supporting the implementation of the Biodiversity Plan. This plan sets goals and concrete measures to stop and reverse the loss of nature by 2050 ¹.
Biodiversity is essential for maintaining the health and resilience of ecosystems, which in turn support human life and well-being. Ecosystems provide a range of services, including pollination, pest control, and nutrient cycling, that are crucial for agriculture and food security. However, human activities such as deforestation, overfishing, and the unsustainable use of natural resources are driving species extinction and ecosystem degradation.
In India too we have rich Biological diversity which is symbol of our rich nature and we need to protect this at all costs .
