Kushinagar (UP), 30 June 2025:
A 45 year old Madhya Pradesh man was killed in Uttar Pradesh after he openly disclosed that he owned 18 acres of land during a spiritual talk by Guru Aniruddhacharya.
The woman he later married has been arrested by police on suspicion of killing him in order to take his belongings. At Guru Aniruddhacharya's katha (spiritual discourse), the deceased who was identified as Indrakumar Tiwari from Jabalpur arrived with a friend. He talked about his land holdings and his struggles to find a life partner. A video of the conversation went viral after Aniruddhacharya advised him to think about giving up material desires.
Later, a woman who was first identified as “Khushi Tiwari” reached out to him on social media. Before she invited him to Gorakhpur under the guise of marriage, they conversed virtually for nearly a month. Police claim that the couple got married there, but a few hours later, her co-conspirators allegedly killed the man to obtain his wealth.
On June 6, Indrakumar's body was found in Sukarouli village, which is under the Kushinagar district's Hata Kotwali jurisdiction. There was a knife stuck in his neck. "It is suspected that the woman and her associates killed him and escaped with some jewelry and cash that he was carrying," Santosh Kumar, the superintendent of police for Kushinagar, told NDTV.
The wife has been taken into custody and is currently known as Sahiba Bano. Investigators claim that during the marriage ceremony, she used a fake Aadhaar card. There are still efforts underway to find and capture other criminals. According to a senior police official, the murder seemed to be a planned trap set up to suffocate Tiwari and take his possessions following the ceremony. Both a forensic investigation and a postmortem are in progress. Following the incident, police are tracking financial transactions and reviewing digital evidence from their communications.
In the meantime, the cruelty has shocked the people of Sukarouli and the neighboring villages. The case "demonstrates how greed can turn a life into a prey," according to a local farmer. Concerns regarding the growing trend of marriages under false pretenses and the vulnerabilities linked to viral attention were also raised by the incident. The police promise that until all of the accused are held accountable, the investigation will continue to be their top priority. The public has been advised by authorities to thoroughly confirm identities before establishing personal relationships, particularly those that are formed online.
Calls for stronger legal protections against marital dishonesty, particularly in cases involving property, have been sparked by this incident. Police are investigating whether there are other cases in the area connected to comparable online schemes. As the investigation develops, more information will be released.
