Kerala , May 25:

Authorities in Kerala are on high alert amid a Liberian-flagged container ship capsized in the Arabian Sea on Saturday, raising a high concerns about a potential oil spill near the state's southern coastline.

The vessel that was en route from Vizhinjam to Kochi Port, encountered rough seas and lost multiple containers—some reportedly carrying hazardous materials and calcium carbide.

Although no oil spill has occurred yet, however ,the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information and Services (INCOIS) has warned that if it does, coastal districts like Alappuzha, Ambalapuzha, Arattupuzha, and Karunagappally could face contamination within 36 to 48 hours.

The Indian Coast Guard and state disaster teams successfully rescued all crew members. The situation remains under close observation as efforts continue to assess the environmental risk.
