New Delhi, May 11:
India’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, has said that Pakistan broke the ceasefire agreement within just a few hours of it being made. The ceasefire was meant to stop cross-border firing and bring peace along the Line of Control (LoC).
Lt Gen Ghai said that soon after the agreement, Pakistan opened fire and also sent drones across the border. He called the violation disappointing but not surprising. India gave a strong reply to these actions and sent an official protest to Pakistan.
The ceasefire agreement was made during a conversation between the DGMOs of both countries on May 10. It was hoped this would help calm down the situation after days of heavy firing. But the quick violation has now raised doubts about Pakistan’s intentions.
Lt Gen Ghai said the Indian Army is fully alert and ready to act if there are more violations. He also mentioned that another meeting between the DGMOs will be held soon to talk about how to stop future ceasefire breaks.
The border situation is still tense. Both countries are under pressure to keep peace and not let things get worse.
