PM Links Pakistan to Pahalgam Attack; Islamabad Reacts with Dismay

Pakistan expressed "dismay" in response to the Prime Minister's strong remarks accusing Islamabad of involvement in the April 22 Pahalgam attack which claimed the lives of 26 tourists.

"Pakistan intended to incite communal violence in India and cripple the earnings of hardworking Kashmiris. Our neighbouring country stands against humanity, social harmony, and economic prosperity. Not only that, it is also the enemy of poor's 'rozi-roti'. What happened on April 22 in Pahalgam was an example of that. Pakistan attacked 'Insaniyat and Kashmiriyat' in Pahalgam," PM Modi said, addressing a rally in Katra on Friday.

PM Modi on Friday praised the residents of J&K for standing up against Pakistan's conspiracy. “The youth of Jammu and Kashmir are now determined to give a strong response to terrorism. This is the same terrorism that burned down schools, destroyed hospitals in the Valley, and ruined generations," he further added.

Responding to PM Modi’s speech Pakistan said in a statement that, “We are deeply dismayed that the Indian prime minister has once again chosen to accuse Pakistan of involvement in the Pahalgam attack, without presenting a single piece of credible evidence.”

"Pakistan remains steadfast in its principled support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their just struggle for their rights and dignity. We call upon the international community, including the United Nations and human rights organisations, to hold India accountable for its oppression and to ensure that the Kashmiri people are allowed to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination, as enshrined in the relevant UN Security Council resolutions,” the Pakistan foreign affairs said in a statement.

Nearly two weeks after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The cross-border escalation lasted four days, marked by intense drone and missile strikes. India and Pakistan reached an understanding to de-escalate on May 10, effectively ending the hostilities.
