Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a high-level security meeting on Sunday with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the Army, Navy, and Air Force chiefs. The meeting followed a day after India and Pakistan agreed to stop military operations after days of heavy cross-border firing and shelling.
Even as the ceasefire agreement-announced first by US President Donald Trump-Israel was accused of violating the agreement on Saturday night, with reports of fresh drone sightings and cross-border firing in Jammu and Kashmir. India has requested Pakistan to take "appropriate steps" to stop these violations and act with "seriousness and responsibility". Indian forces are still on high alert with strict orders to retaliate firmly against any further violations.
The situation on the border has since eased, but people in various areas are still on edge following days of blackouts, drone attacks, and shelling. India reaffirmed its firm stand against terrorism and asserted that the armed forces are keeping a close watch.
The Congress party has asked PM Modi to hold an all-party meeting and a special session of Parliament to debate the ceasefire, Pahalgam terror attack, and Operation Sindoor and has questioned diplomatic channels and third-party mediation.
