Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Tamil Nadu on Saturday to launch several development projects in the area.
He also honored the Kargil heroes on Kargil Diwas and highlighted the importance of 'Made In India' during Operation Sindoor. "Today, the Government of India is strongly promoting Make in India and Mission Manufacturing. You all recently saw the impact of Make in India during Operation Sindoor. The weapons made in India played a major role in destroying terrorist hideouts. Weapons made in India still keep the masters of terrorism awake at night," he said.
"After this FTA agreement, 99% of Indian products sold in Britain will be tax-free. When Indian goods are cheaper in Britain, their demand will rise. The India-Britain FTA will benefit Tamil Nadu's youth, our small industries, MSMEs, and start-ups the most," he added.
He also discussed the development projects in Tamil Nadu. "In February last year, I laid the foundation stone and dedicated various development projects worth hundreds of crores in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. I also laid the foundation stone for the Outer Harbour Container Terminal at VO Chidambaranar Port. Today, I am laying the foundation stone and inaugurating projects worth Rs 4,800 crore. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of Tamil Nadu for these important initiatives."
He continued, "The development of Tamil Nadu is our commitment. We consistently prioritize policies related to the state’s progress. In the past decade, the Central Government has allocated over three times more funds to Tamil Nadu compared to what was given during the previous UPA government."
He also mentioned giving the pearls of Thoothukudi to Bill Gates. "Last year, I gave the famous pearls of Thoothukudi to Bill Gates. He really liked those pearls. The pearls from this region were once seen as a symbol of India's economic power around the world," he said.
