Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the Adampur Air Base in the Jalandhar district of Punjab, days after the India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement, as a show of solidarity and appreciation towards the military. The visit was made at a time when military operations had gained momentum and Operation Sindoor, India's new counter-terrorism operation, was initiated.
PM Modi, who had reached in the morning, was extensively briefed by officials of the Indian Air Force about recent operational activity at the strategically placed air base. The Adampur base, one of the largest in North India, was at the epicenter of the recent showdown with Pakistan and was used as a hub of air operations and rapid response.
Upon his visit, the Prime Minister also spoke directly with the jawans and air warriors, praising them for their grit, professionalism, and unrelenting devotion towards national security. He underlined the country's appreciation for the service of such men, especially under the taxing conditions of recent weeks. The interactions of Modi were characterized by one-on-one exchanges, in which he was briefed on the experiences and complaints of the people who are deputed at the base.
In his address, PM Modi highlighted the significance of Operation Sindoor, calling it a landmark in India's strategic reaction to combat terrorism. "Operation Sindoor was not a designation. Operation Sindoor is now India's established policy in the fight against terrorism, a definable change in India's strategic course. The operation has set a new benchmark, a new norm in counter-terror operations," Modi stated. He again asserted that the operation was a response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and that India would never let any threat to its people or sovereignty.
Modi once more declared, "Today, every terrorist knows the cost of erasing sindoor from the brows of our daughters and sisters. Operation Sindoor is a pledge to justice with no apology. Terrorists dared to erase sindoor from the brows of our sisters, therefore India erased the very nerve center of terror.". His message was a reflection of the government's intention to pursue justice for terrorism victims and to maintain a firm defense posture.
The visit by the Prime Minister was also viewed as a morale enhancer for the forces, as a assurance of the government backing and as a sign of appreciation of sacrifices made by soldiers and their families. Officials accompanying Modi noted that such interactions are necessary to maintain the operational awareness and morale of the forces, especially during periods of heightened alertness.
As tensions remain along the border, PM Modi’s presence at Adampur Air Base sent a clear signal of India’s preparedness and unity.
The visit concluded with Modi saluting the air warriors and jawans, assuring them of the nation’s unwavering support and the government’s commitment to their welfare and the country’s security.
