Haridwar, 6, June,2025:

A former district functionary of the Bharatiya Janata Party and two men have been taken into custody by Haridwar police in relation to the repeated sexual assault of her 13-year-old daughter.

Official statements claim that the accused mother assisted her boyfriend and his associate in eight different assaults, many of which took place in her presence. A quick police investigation was prompted after the survivor told her father about the case. The girl's statements were supported by medical examinations performed by a certified medical board, which also provided vital forensic evidence and confirmed multiple rape incidents. The mother, who had been living apart from her husband after a domestic conflict, allegedly forced her daughter to drink alcohol prior to each attack in order to render her unconscious, according to investigators.

The main accused, Anamika Sharma, was a BJP district official until the middle of 2024, according to police sources. The attacks were carried out in various locations throughout Haridwar, Agra, and Vrindavan by her boyfriend Sumit Patwal and his associate Shubham. In Haridwar, both men were arrested. After local authorities issued an alert, the third accused was caught trying to escape the city in a private vehicle. All three are charged with aggravated sexual assault and criminal conspiracy under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Law enforcement officials emphasized in interviews that public scrutiny has increased due to the mother's alleged political affiliation and the parent's involvement in such heinous acts. Child welfare advocates and community leaders have denounced the crime and demanded strict measures and changes to child protection systems. The public has been reassured by Haridwar police that the investigation is still ongoing and that every effort will be made to ensure the survivor receives justice. To safeguard the minor's identity, confidentiality provisions outlined in juvenile justice guidelines are closely adhered to. Community members have been asked by authorities to assist with the investigation and to hold off on disclosing unconfirmed information that might jeopardize the case or cause the child more trauma. Public indignation and extensive media coverage of this case have highlighted the pressing need for more robust interventions in cases of child abuse and domestic violence. Plans to review current child protection procedures and improve coordination between law enforcement, social services, and medical facilities have been announced by the Haridwar district administration. Government representatives have reaffirmed their resolve to hold offenders accountable and protect children who are at risk from exploitation.
