President Awards Padma Shri to Cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin for Sporting Achievements

New Delhi, April 28, 2025 —
President Droupadi Murmu awarded Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin the Padma Shri Award in a grand ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan for his exemplary contribution to the sport. The ceremony, witnessed by various dignitaries and celebrity guests, was another achievement in the legendary career of Ashwin.

Ashwin, India's best spin bowler, has been a part of Indian cricket for more than a decade now. With more than 500 international wickets and many match-winning deliveries, he has been the force behind India's triumphs in the nation as well as abroad. As a result of his keen cricketing brain and innovative methods of bowling, Ashwin has also inspired millions of young cricketers all over the country.

The Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honor, awards individuals for their meritorious service in fields such as the arts, education, industry, literature, science, sports, medicine, social service, and public affairs. Ashwin's award is a recognition of his sustained contribution to Indian cricket and his status as a role model of the next generation.

In his own words, following receipt of the award, Ashwin stated, "It is a great honor to receive the Padma Shri. I would like to dedicate this to my family, coaches, teammates, and fans who have been a constant source of support throughout my journey."
