Following the demise of Pope Francis, a somber mood and respect have engulfed the whole world. India too is displaying profound respect and condolences to the great religious head. For that reason, Indian President Droupadi Murmu has visited Vatican City on a special trip.

He is joined by Union Minister of Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development George Kurien and Goa Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Joshua D'Souza.

In this two-day trip, the President will offer tribute to Pope Francis on behalf of the Indian people and government. He will visit St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican to offer his last respects to this great spiritual leader by laying a wreath.

Pope Francis' state funeral will be conducted on April 26, in which the high-profile leaders of all nations of the world will take part.  President Murmu will also attend the condolence meeting representing India.

Pope Francis etched his name in history as the first non-European Pope. He was not just the leader of the Catholic Church, but also a representative of humanity, peace and sympathy for the whole world. Following his death, the Indian government has announced three days of state mourning, which is a sign of extreme sincerity.

This presidential visit is not ceremonial - it is a serious message from India, demonstrating our devotion to religious tolerance, global harmony and human values.
