President Droupadi Murmu recognized India's bureaucracy for their "well-sustained efforts in policymaking that have changed lives and fast-tracked national progress" during the Civil Services Day celebrations. Referring to initiatives such as the Aspirational Districts Programme, PM Gati Shakti, and DBT reforms, she appreciated civil servants for injecting grassroots thinking and implementation options that vested power in governance and leakage-proofed the welfare scheme.
Murmu asked the officials to create "inclusive, sustainable, and tech-enabled solutions" to address challenges in areas such as climate resilience, digital equity, and geographic disparities.
Her address comes after efforts being made to modernize the bureaucracy, such as mission-mode training in artificial intelligence and data management under Mission Karmayogi. The President's words emphasized the key role of civil services in turning political vision into tangible change, using India's improvement in ranks such as the Human Development Report as proof of their work.
The ceremony also celebrated bureaucrats for making contributions towards excellence in innovation and redressal of public grievances, reflecting the government's focus on output-based and responsive governance.
Murmu's award is a confidence booster for the civil servants in addressing the huge governance challenges with orientation towards the country's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
