Principal of a school in Haryana was stabbed to death by students who were ordered to get a haircut.

In a shocking incident where a school principal in Hisar district of state Haryana was stabbed to death by two school students of Class 12 when he rebuked them on the refusal to take hair cuts and follow the school discipline. This took place on 10 July in the school campus which the police confirmed.


According to police reports, the principal who was about 52, had confronted the students due to their untrimmed hair which contravened the school dressing code. Having requested them to be disciplined, he was later stabbed with a knife by the two boys; which caused his death on the spot.


A top police officer of Hisar said, the students were angered because they were advised to trim their hair and be disciplined according to school regulations. They picked a knife and stabbed him several times.” The untimely demise of the principal has not only shocked the local community but it has also cast great doubts concerning the safety of students in schools.


After the attack, the attackers escaped and are yet to be captured. A manhunt is currently on whereby teams of the Haryana Police, local administration, have been placed in road blocks and raising alerts district wise to identify the suspects.


The incident has elicited a strict reaction between the education authorities and parents. One district education officer said the killing is something that is deeply offensive to them, and schools must be areas in which teachers and pupils are safe.


People who live around the school in the village have become shocked and alarmed. One of the parents, who talked anonymously, noted that, we take our children to school in hope of discipline and learning. We have never thought it could be so violent simply because of a haircut.


Answering back, the minister of Education of the Haryana State ordered all the district schools to examine security measures. Among measures, one can distinguish the tightening of supervision on campus, the counselling of problem students, and the development of the concrete procedures of disciplinary dealing.


Child rights experts and activists have asked to strengthen counselling frameworks in schools. A local social worker, Anita Sharma, emphasised, that students require having their directions and emotions supported. Discipline has to be taught in schools mixed with respect and empathy.”


The Haryana government has said that it will assist the family of the deceased principal with ex gratia. In the meantime, the police have promised quick justice and requested that any person who may be having information regarding the suspects to present it to the authorities.


This case highlights a frightening trend in the degree to which there is Student on teacher violence in India. It comes at a time when the issue of safety within educational institutions and psychological pressures exerted on adolescents are becoming major points of concern to the nation.
