Pune Porsche Crash: Families Still Await Justice amid one year of Tragedy

Pune, May 19, 2025 — A year after the tragic Porsche Taycan crash in Pune's Kalyani Nagar that claimed the lives of two young IT professionals, the victims' families continue to seek justice the legal proceedings remain stalled.


On May 19, 2024, 24-year-olds Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhiya were killed when a Porsche Taycan, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old under the influence of alcohol, collided with their motorcycle. This incident sparked national outrage, especially after the Juvenile Justice Board granted the accused bail within 15 hours, imposing conditions such as writing a 300-word essay on road safety. 


Subsequent investigations revealed an attempts to tamper with evidence. A 900-page chargesheet was filed by Pune Police named seven individuals, including the teen's parents and two doctors from Sassoon General Hospital, accused of manipulating blood samples to conceal the driver's intoxication. 


Despite these , the trial has not been commence. Delays have been attributed to pending bail applications, procedural hurdles, and changes in the judiciary. 


In a significant turn, the Juvenile Justice Board decided in February 2025 to try the accused as an adult, responding to public demand and the severity of the offense. 


Meanwhile, the victims' families express deep frustration over the slow pace of justice. They are now demanding legal reforms and stricter enforcement to stop such incidents in the near future. 


Despite initial crackdowns on nightlife establishments following the accident, residents reported a resurgence of violations, including open drinking and lax enforcement, raising concerns about safety of the Public and accountability. 


As the community marks this somber anniversary, the call for justice and systemic change remains as urgent as ever.
