Chandigarh, May 22 2025:The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday requested a detailed records of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) meetings that was held since April 23, amid an ongoing dispute over water allocation.
During the resumed hearing, Punjab’s counsel, senior advocate Gurminder Singh, argued that both Haryana and Rajasthan had drawn more water than their allotted share, while Punjab had stayed within its quota. He stressed that the water now in question belonged rightfully to Punjab.
The court heard that the BBMB chairman could escalate disputes to the Union Government, whose decision would be binding.
However, Singh noted that a recent press release showed the decision came from the Union Home Secretary, not the Minister of Power, who is the authorized authority under BBMB regulations.
