Quick Delivery of Voter ID in 15 Days

New Delhi, June 18, 2025:

In order to improve voter services, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the implementation of a fast track delivery system that will guarantee that Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) are delivered to citizens within 15 days of any change to the electoral rolls.

Previously, after changes like new enrollments or updates to personal information, voters frequently had to wait more than 30 days to receive their EPICs. This is intended to be fixed by the new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which requires delivery within 15 days. According to the ECI, this will help millions of voters by cutting down on lengthy wait times and enhancing the dependability of electoral services.

Every phase of the card's lifecycle, from creation by the Electoral Registration Officer to ultimate delivery through the Department of Posts, will be monitored in real time under the updated protocol. At every stage, voters will receive SMS notifications, guaranteeing transparency and boosting their trust in the procedure.

The ECINet platform now includes a new IT module to support this endeavor. By minimizing manual handling, this system improves data security and enables smooth workflow integration through a direct connection to the Department of Post's API.

ECI representatives emphasized the initiative's importance. A commission spokesperson said, "Electors will also receive notifications via SMS at each stage, keeping them informed about the status of their EPICs." Together, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, and Dr. Vivek Joshi have approved the action as a component of more comprehensive voter centric reforms.

The change has been welcomed by local officials. According to the Punjabi Tribune, the majority of voters had previously had to wait more than a month to receive their cards. The Department of Posts is expected to deliver via speed post under the new system, which will maintain a flat fee per item and improve accountability.

With state and national elections planned in a number of regions, this expedited delivery plan comes at a critical juncture. Voter ID services that are more transparent and efficient may increase turnout and make it easier for more people to cast ballots. According to the ECI, all systems should be fully functional in two weeks, and performance indicators will be regularly monitored.

Voters are urged to seek assistance from the electoral registration office or their local Booth Level Officer if they have not received their EPICs within 15 days.
