Uttarkashi: A sudden rockslide on the Yamunotri pilgrimage trek route near Nau Kainchi Bend in Uttarakhand has raised fears that several pilgrims may be trapped under the debris. According to initial reports, at least three pilgrims are believed to be buried.
Upon receiving the alert, SDRF and police teams rushed to the site and have begun rescue operations. According to the District Control Center in Uttarkashi, a devotee from Mumbai, Maharashtra, identified as Rashiq, was rescued and taken to Jan Ki Chatti for treatment. Search efforts for the others are still ongoing.
The exact number of people trapped under the debris remains unclear. Meanwhile, District Magistrate Prashant Kumar Arya is monitoring the entire rescue operation from the Smart Control Room.
The incident occurred around 4 PM on Monday under clear skies and bright sunlight, with no rainfall reported. A portion of the hill suddenly collapsed near Nau Kainchi Bend, prompting concerns that some pilgrims may be buried underneath. Eyewitnesses at the scene claimed that one person can be seen trapped under the debris.
As a safety measure, police have temporarily halted pedestrian movement near Nau Kainchi Bend. SDRF and Yamunotri Police teams are on their way to the site.
