New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough, the South District Police on Saturday busted an examination scam ring in the capital and arrested four individuals who were part of the illegal racket.
According to authorities, the accused were planning a sophisticated proxy system, under which impersonators were being used to appear in exams on behalf of genuine candidates for substantial amounts of money. This practice was being employed to obtain government employment and admission in elite institutions without merit.
In a special operation on the basis of secret inputs, the police conducted a quick crackdown at several examination centers in South Delhi. The probe established that the racket had been functioning for some time and had links with organized gangs engaged in academic scams.
Top officials confirmed that the suspects not only organized proxy candidates but also issued counterfeit identification documents to make impersonation easier. Some of the arrested suspects are suspected to be professional exam-takers who were hired to impersonate candidates.
"We got credible information that some people were taking proxies for competitive examinations. On this information, we conducted surveillance at different examination centers. In raids, we arrested four such people who were indulging in this fraudulent practice," a senior police officer said.
The authorities have confiscated a number of fake ID cards, admit cards, and mobile phones that were used in the coordination of the operations. The electronic devices are being further analyzed forensically to identify the larger network and other perpetrators.
The arrested persons are being questioned to track down the masterminds behind the operation. Further arrests are imminent as the investigation continues.
The South District Police have also appealed to institutions and exam boards to tighten up verification processes at examination centers to avoid such malpractices. Special vigilance teams have also been established to oversee upcoming exams to guarantee fairness and integrity.
More updates are pending as the investigation continues.
