04 June, 2025:

Tehran police have located and safely released the three young Indian nationals who had gone missing in Iran in May this year.

The Iranian Embassy in India conveyed the information through a post on social media platform X, confirming that a successful police operation had taken place in Varamin, a town located south of Tehran. The operation was coordinated by the consular affairs department of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with local law enforcement authorities.

The three rescued individuals – Amritpal Singh from Hoshiarpur, Jaspal Singh from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, and Hushanpreet Singh from Sangrur, had gone to Iran on May 1 after a travel agency promised them a safe journey and jobs in Australia. But soon after they reached Tehran, they were kidnapped by the people who took them there, and their families in India were asked to pay money for their release, according to the reports.

Earlier on May 29, Ministry of External affairs said in a briefing that, "We are in daily touch with Iranian authorities and extending all possible help to the families. We’ve received good cooperation from Iran." Iranian Embassy in India also had said that the case is currently under investigation.

"Three missing Indian citizens freed by Tehran police," the Iranian embassy said in a post on X.

The families expressed deep gratitude to the Indian government for securing the youths' release, calling it a huge relief after weeks of fear.
