NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man and his brother have been detained for allegedly trying to extort money from a friend in West Delhi after the guy reportedly lost Rs 80 lakh in his artificial jewelry company.

According to authorities on Saturday, the two wrote a threatening letter that included pictures of the victim's family and empty cartridges.

The defendants, Rohit Nagpal, 35, and his brother, Sagar, 30, who live on Rajan Babu Road in Adarsh Nagar, are accused of devising a scheme to demand money from their victim, a Punjabi Bagh-based businessman.

In addition, the letter threatened to harm the family if the cash was not received. When the victim received the letter, they filed a complaint.

Rohit, the complainant's close friend, admitted to orchestrating the extortion attempt while being questioned. He clarified that he and his brother were having difficulty repaying a Rs 80 lakh debt, said DCP (west) Vichitra Veer.
