Amritsar, May 4:
Punjab Police on Sunday arrested two persons for allegedly sharing intelligence regarding Indian Army cantonments and Air Force bases with Pakistani agents. The duo, Palak Sher Masih (32) and his brother Suraj Masih (29), were arrested after the Amritsar Rural Police's one-month surveillance.
Police say the duo shared images of secure boundaries, movement of troops, and internal layout of the facilities through encrypted messaging platforms. They allegedly contacted a middleman, Harpreet Singh—a man who has aliases "Pittu" and "Happy"—who is already serving an independent sentence at Amritsar Central Jail and is suspected of having connections with Pakistani intelligence.
A top police officer said digital forensic examination of the couple's devices found repeated sharing of sensitive information in the last six months. Raids on their home yielded laptops, mobile phones, and storage media bearing maps, blueprints of facilities, and audio recordings of security exercises.
The case has been filed under the Official Secrets Act, and further charges under the Indian Penal Code are also being contemplated. "Revealing information about our defence establishments is a serious offence," declared the Director General of Police. "It compromises national security and will be pursued to the limit of the law."
Security has been fortified around all key military bases in Punjab, with local commanders instructed to reassess entry procedures. The arrests coincide with increasing alertness along the India–Pakistan border following a recent surge in ceasefire violations and cross-border tension. Additional investigations are ongoing to identify any further collaborators or breaches.
