Union Minister Somanna states that Indian Railways and Konkan will unite

On Saturday, V Somanna, the Union Minister of State for Railways, promised to work toward the Konkan Railway's merger with Indian Railways. 

"I took up the issue shortly after becoming MOS railways and held a meeting at Mangalore," the minister stated. I have asked Ashwini Vaishnav, the Union Minister of Railways, to allow Konkan Railways to combine with Indian Railways, and the process is on.

When questioned about the demands of the state governments of Goa and Karnataka as well as Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis' request for the Center to merge the Konkan Railway Corporation with Indian Railways, Somanna stated that both governments must issue a NOC before the merger process can begin. 

Development on the coast in particular and the state in general will be ushered in by the combination. He added that it was because to the efforts of former Defense Minister George Fernandes that the Konkan Railway Corporation came into existence.
