Washington, D.C., June 3: Usha Vance, wife of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, recently reflected on her family's memorable interaction with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their visit to India. Speaking during an event hosted by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, she described the meeting as a deeply personal and touching experience.
Recounting the moment, Vance said her children, who were still adjusting to the time difference after traveling from Paris, instantly connected with Prime Minister Modi.
“They saw an Indian man with white hair and a white beard and immediately put him in the ‘grandfather’ category,” and she shared. “They were very taken with him — they just love him.”
The bond was further deepened when Prime Minister Modi surprised the couple’s five-year-old child with a birthday gift.
“That really cemented his status in their eyes,” Vance noted with a smile.
During a visit to the Prime Minister’s residence, the children’s affection was on full display.
“They ran up to him and hugged him. He was just incredibly kind and generous to them,” she added.
The remarks highlighted not just the warmth of the personal interaction, but also served as a symbol of the growing people-to-people ties between India and the United States.
