Uttarkashi Cloudburst Triggers Flash Flood, 5 Dead, 150 Rescued

A sudden and devastating cloudburst struck Dharali village in Uttarkashi, triggering a flash flood that turned the area into a scene of destruction within moments. On Tuesday afternoon, torrential rain caused the Kheer Ganga river to overflow, sweeping away homes and roads. At least five people have died in the disaster, while around 100 remain missing. Rescue teams from the Army, SDRF,  have been deployed, and so far, around 150 people have been evacuated to safety.

Viral videos from the site show the horror of the calamity, including one survivor crawling out of the debris, repeatedly shouting “Run, run!” Army camps in Harsil and Dharali were also flooded, leaving 10–12 soldiers stranded as rescue operations continued. Hotels and schools have been converted into temporary relief shelters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed concern over the tragedy and assured all possible assistance. Experts warn that such cloudbursts and landslides in the Himalayan region may become more frequent due to climate change and unchecked hill development. For now, relentless rescue operations continue, as grief stricken villages await help and hope.
