WB GOVERNOR ASKED TO RENAME KOLKATA'S 'FORT WILLIAM' AFTER THE NAME OF FREEDOM FIGHTER 'RASH BEHARI BOSE'

To pay tribute to famous freedom fighter Rash Behari Bose, CV Bose recommended and asked to change the name of 'Fort William' of Kolkata as 'Rash Behari Fort Hall'

To commemorate the 138th birth anniversary of renowned freedom fighter from Bengal Rashbehari Bose , Governor CV Anand Bose suggested to change the name of Kolkata's Fort William after him.


    To pay respect he visited to the Rash Behari Institute and Museum at Bagbazar in Chandanangar and during this visit he has given this proposal.


    Rash Behari Institute has requested to change the name of Fort William as "Rash Behari Fort Hall" after him as once he was an employee at Fort William .Rash Behari Bose and his fellow freedom fighter Bagha Jatin shared a dream of hoisting the Indian flag together at Fort William. Hence, supporters of the demand feel that renaming the historical site would be a fitting tribute to Rash Behari Bose’s contribution to the freedom struggle.


     Governor of Bengal CV Anand Bose in his speech emphasized the importance of imparting the thoughts and ideas of Rash Behari Bose to the present generation. He said that India can be built on a solid foundation if Rash Behari’s principles are followed. The Governor appreciated the efforts of the Rashbehari Institute in preserving and promoting the legacy of the freedom fighter.


    Kalyan Chakraborty, the founder and owner of Chandan Nagar Rashbehari Institute, revealed that Governor CV Anand Bose had generously donated Rs 1 lakh after seeing their work. Chakraborty highlighted that the practice of Rash Behari Bose's ideals is carried out without any financial assistance from the government or corporate entities. Additionally, the institute expressed its willingness to sponsor a book on Rash Behari Bose if it were to be written by the Raj Bhavan. The Governor said he was unaware of the matter but assured that he would make efforts to address the book proposal.


As part of the commemoration of Rash Behari Bose's birth anniversary, the Governor released a book written by Sayantan Bose - a biography on the freedom fighter.
