Mumbai, June 1 2025 : An illegal wildlife trafficking have been discovered by the authorities at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport which intercepted a major smuggling attempt involving rare and protected species. An Indian national has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
According to customs officials, the passenger was found carrying a concealed consignment of exotic wildlife, which included several endangered species. The animals were reportedly being transported without proper documentation, violating both national and international wildlife protection laws.
Officials stated that the seizure was made amid a tip-off and a thorough inspection of the passenger’s luggage. The rescued animals have been handed over to wildlife experts for care and further assessment.
An investigation is currently going on to determine the origin and intended destination of the smuggled species, as well as to uncover any links to a larger trafficking network.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to curbing wildlife crime and have urged the travellers to refrain from participating in or facilitating illegal animal trade.
