Today is World Sand Dune Day 2025. India has a rich coastline and high importance of Sand Dune. On this day, This is an opportunity to celebrate some of the special and protected habitats we have on our coastline. 

By definition, sand dune is a mound or ridge of sand created by the wind, commonly found near coastlines or in deserts. They are formed when wind carries sand particles and deposits them, gradually building up into a hill-like structure. 

On this day we need to take pledge to protect both desert Sand Dunes as well as Coastal Sand Dunes. We need to bear in mind that coastal sand dunes act as a natural barrier against wind and waves and protect inland areas from damage due to storms, cyclones and tsunamis. 

Sand dunes are also an important ecosystem and support highly specialised plants and rare and endangered animal species. Let us take a pledge to protect Sand Dunes on eve of 2025 World Sand Dune Day.

 Together, we can make a difference by raising awareness and promoting conservation efforts to preserve these unique ecosystems for future generations. Protect sand dunes, protect life.
