YAMUNA RIVER IN DELHI BREACHES DANGER MARK, FLOOD ALERT ISSUED

Rising Yamuna River Threatens to Flood Delhi, Evacuations Underway

The water position of the Yamuna in Delhi has traduced the peril mark of 205.33 measures and is now swimming at 206.32 measures at 8 am on Tuesday. This has touched off a high alert and rail and road business on the Old Yamuna Bridge have been temporarily suspended. 


The Yamuna is hanging to cross its loftiest flood tide position of207.49 measures, which was recorded in 1978. Evacuation of people living in low- lying areas of Yamuna floodplains has begun and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asserted that there's no trouble of flooding as of now still, he has said that his government is prepared to deal with the situation and 41,000 people have been linked to be shifted to relief camps if the need arises. 


The Delhi Public Works Department( PWD) Minister Atishi has said that people are being transferred to safer places from khadar( floodplains) area and quarter adjudicators concerned have been directed to be on the alert. 


The Safdarjung Observatory, the main rainfall station in Delhi, recorded a whopping 107.3 mm of downfall in a 24- hour period ending at 830 am on Monday. 


The megacity logged another2.9 mm of downfall in the coming nine hours, the India Meteorological Department( IMD) said. The IMD has prognosticated more rain in the megacity for the entire week.
