10 June, 2025:
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus reached London on Tuesday on a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom (UK), aiming to enhance bilateral relations.
A flight of Emirates Airlines carrying the chief adviser and his small entourage arrived at Heathrow Airport, London at 7:05am (London time), chief adviser’s deputy press secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told the reporters.
During his visit, the Chief Advisor is expected to hold discussions with UK authorities on repatriating laundered money from Bangladesh and attracting investment in the country’s renewable energy sector, among other issues.
"The UK is interested in investing in Bangladesh's renewable energy sector. Besides, the European country is also keen on providing advisory services to our renewable energy sector. Discussions could take place on the issues during the CA's visit there,” a Bangladeshi official said.
The acting foreign secretary underscored the significance of the visit, highlighting that the UK, as a prominent democratic nation, places great importance on supporting democratic values and good governance in developing countries. He stated that the visit would serve as an opportunity to highlight Bangladesh’s ongoing reform efforts, its democratic journey, and the interim government's dedication to upholding good governance.
"And above all," he noted, "as a Nobel laureate and a globally respected figure, the chief adviser has a unique and positive image around the world. A visit to the UK by a personality like him will further enhance and consolidate Bangladesh’s position in the global arena."
Meanwhile Tulip Siddiq, a former UK minister, is seeking a meeting with Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus in London to address a "misunderstanding" regarding corruption allegations, according to a report. In a June 4 letter to Yunus, Siddiq has asked for an opportunity to discuss the ongoing controversy during the chief adviser's visit to London next week.
