Ahead of the fourth Test of the India-England Test series 2025, a young pacer Anshul Kamboj has found a place in the Indian squad. This talented right-arm pacer from Haryana has been included in the squad for the England tour mainly due to the injury-related absence of pacer Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep has been dropped from the team due to a serious hand injury and Anshul has been named in the Test squad in his place.
Anshul Kamboj has been a largely unknown name in Indian cricket until now. However, his performance in domestic cricket has been very eye-catching. While playing for Haryana in the Ranji Trophy, he achieved the rare feat of taking 10 wickets in an innings. Kamboj's bowling was devastating in that match against Kerala. It was this performance that brought him to the attention of the national selectors.
He recently played two unofficial Test matches for India A during their tour of England, taking five wickets. He has been included in the squad keeping in mind the injuries and fatigue of the pacers ahead of the fourth Test of the series at Old Trafford. Experts believe that both Kamboj's height and speed could be effective in the English environment.
Many cricket fans are optimistic about Anshul's inclusion. If the young pacer gets the chance, he could make his debut in the fourth Test starting July 23. His aggressive bowling and controlled line-length are believed to be effective for India on English soil.
While India's pace attack is currently on the back foot, the addition of a new face like Anshul could add to the strength of the team. For the young bowler, this is not just an opportunity, but a golden opportunity to prove himself on the international stage. There is no dearth of talent in the Indian team, but showcasing that talent at the right time and in the right context is what is most important at this moment. It remains to be seen how well Anshul Kamboj can capitalize on that opportunity.
