Asia Rugby U20 Sevens 2025 to be hosted in Rajgir Bihar on August 9 and 10

In the second week of August 2025 the historic city of Rajgir in Bihar will host a remarkable sporting event the Asia Rugby Emirates Under 20 Sevens Championship. Scheduled for August 9 and 10 the two day tournament will bring together 16 of Asias top youth rugby teams eight each in the men’s and women’s categories. Matches will follow a round robin format with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the Cup semifinals. Those who fall short will still compete in the Plate competition ensuring competitive excitement throughout the event.


Asia Rugby President Qais Al Dhalai described the tournament as not just a celebration of youth rugby but a symbol of inclusivity and accessibility in sport. He expressed gratitude to Rugby India the Bihar Government and local partners for their support and extended special thanks to Emirates Airlines the event’s principal sponsor.


In the men’s division teams from China Hong Kong China India Kazakhstan Sri Lanka United Arab Emirates Uzbekistan and Malaysia will compete. The women’s division will feature teams from China Hong Kong China India Kazakhstan Sri Lanka United Arab Emirates Uzbekistan and Nepal. This diverse lineup promises a vibrant showcase of young rugby talent from across Asia.


The tournament marks a comeback after last year’s edition which was planned for Ahmedabad but was cancelled at the last minute. For India hosting the 2025 edition is both a proud milestone and a unique opportunity. Rugby India President and actor Rahul Bose called it historic adding This is the first time India will host the competition and we are eager to welcome the best young talent in Asia.


Rajgir known as the City of Kings for its rich heritage and ancient history will become the focal point of youth rugby this August. With the Bihar Government’s cooperation and the experience of organising international level events this championship is expected not only to expand the reach of rugby in the region but also to boost the state’s tourism and global recognition.


Over two action packed days young athletes will take the field with ambitions that go beyond winning they will aim to make their mark on the world stage. Through the combined efforts of Rugby India and Asia Rugby the tournament is set to open a new chapter in South Asias sporting story.
