CSK finish last in 2025 season, but Dhoni hints at playing next year
Chennai Super Kings endured their worst IPL season till date, winning only four matches and finishing at the bottom of the table.
Despite the dismal performance and mounting questions about MS Dhoni’s form and leadership, indications suggest that the former India skipper may return in 2026.
Dhoni assumed captaincy midway through the season amid Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury but failed to revive the team’s fortunes.
Former cricketer Atul Wassan defended Dhoni, stating, “Even Clive Lloyd wouldn’t succeed with a weak side. A captain is only as good as the team he leads.”
Wassan also suggested Dhoni’s enduring love for the franchise and its fans is what keeps him going.
“Dhoni is CSK, and CSK is Dhoni, He’s still pulling crowds and money for the franchise despite not being at his best.”He said
With no official statement from Dhoni yet, fans remain hopeful of his return in IPL 2026—regardless of form or fitness.
