India put up an impressive show at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai, winning a total of seven medals—2 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze—coming second in the overall medal count behind South Korea.
Seasoned archer Deepika Kumari grabbed a significant comeback to form with her win in the bronze medal of the women's recurve individual event. Deepika edged South Korea's Kang Chae-young by winning 7-3, showing her mettle and experience. The win adds to Deepika's stellar medal tally, which is now her 12th individual World Cup medal.
Young sensation Parth Salunkhe, the reigning U21 World Champion, claimed his first senior World Cup medal with a bronze in the men's recurve individual event. Seeded 60 for the tournament, Salunkhe emerged as an outstanding archer and chill dude who defeated France's Baptiste Addis 6-4 in the bronze medal match.
India's compound archers also did incredibly well. Madhura Dhamangaonkar won gold in the women's individual compound event, and Ojas Deotale, Abhishek Verma, and Rishabh Yadav won gold in the men's team compound event. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, and Chikitha Taniparthi won silver in the women's team compound event, and Abhishek Verma and Madhura Dhamangaonkar won bronze in the mixed team compound event. Rishabh Yadav won another bronze in the men's individual compound event.
With this wonderful haul of medals, India has established its growing prowess in archery in the world. The team's performance in Shanghai offers a solid foundation for the next phases of the World Cup, the next of which is to be held in Antalya, Turkey, from June 3 to June 8, 2025.
This success not only reflects the amount of Indian archery potential but also raises the morale for upcoming significant international events later this year.
