Karun Nair Returns to India Test Squad Amid Eight-Year Hiatus

Karun Nair, who was famously known for scoring an unbeaten 303 in 2016 against England, has made a dramatic return to India’s Test cricket squad after over eight years. His last Test appearance was in 2017.

Nair's consistent performances in the domestic circuit, particularly his strong 2024–25 Ranji Trophy showing ,where he amassed 863 runs at an average of 53.93—have earned him a recall. 

The retirements of senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opened the door for experienced options like Nair.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar has highlighted Nair’s recent form and prior international exposure as key factors for his selection over younger contenders like Sarfaraz Khan. Nair’s experience playing county cricket in England with Northamptonshire was also cited as a vital asset.

If he performs well during the ‘A’ tour, Nair could make the playing XI for the first Test against England starting June 20 in Leeds.
