Former Australia captain Steve Waugh believes China could become a major force in cricket, especially with the sport being added to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Speaking at an event, Waugh said, "As soon as cricket's inclusion in the Olympics was confirmed, China began forming a team. They are serious about winning gold."
Waugh also shared his thoughts on how the T20 format is reshaping cricket. He said, "T20 is huge now. It's a billion-dollar industry and getting bigger every day."
He added, "Test cricket will survive, but T20 will lead. In the future, players might mostly sign with clubs, and Test matches may need special approvals."
Waugh mentioned that countries like the USA and Saudi Arabia are investing big money into cricket. "It's exciting to see the game grow in new regions, and the Olympics will help even more," he said.
Talking about his love for India, Waugh called it "the best place in the world for photography." He shared how one of his pictures from Rajasthan won a World Photography Award. "In India, you just can't take a bad photo," he laughed.
He also spoke about inspiring other cricketers to get involved in charity work in India. "At that time, not many athletes were doing it. But once someone takes the first step, others start to follow," he said.
