New Delhi, May 20 2025:The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has announced that all the gold medalists from the upcoming U-17 National Wrestling Championships in Palwal, Haryana (May 25–27), will directly qualify for next month’s U-17 Asian Wrestling Championship in Vietnam.
The Asian event, that is scheduled for June 22–27 in Vung Tau, has a tight registration deadline, prompting WFI to streamline the selection process.
A WFI official said “To meet United World Wrestling's (UWW) entry deadline of May 28, we've decided to select winners from Palwal Nationals. This ensures swift documentation and compliance with international timelines”.
Gold medalists will be required to submit documents immediately after their finals, and coaches and state units have been instructed to assist in the process.
For the U-23 Asian Championship, WFI will conduct separate trials. Freestyle and Greco-Roman trials will take place in Lucknow on May 22, while the women’s trials are scheduled to be held on May 23 in New Delhi. Eligible wrestlers include national campers under 23, participants from the March 25 trials, and U-20 medalists aged 18–20.
“No prior performances, including those in 2024, will be considered,” an official further added, noting that sufficient opportunities have already been provided.
