When will the name of the new Indian football coach be announced? The federation reveals the date who is leading the race?

Indian football is on the brink of a major shift as the All India Football Federation (AIFF) prepares to announce the new head coach of the national team on August 1. The position has been vacant since Manolo Márquez stepped down earlier this month. After reviewing nearly 170 applications, the AIFF’s technical committee has shortlisted three candidates, with Khalid Jamil emerging as the clear frontrunner.

Alongside Jamil, the other names in contention are Stephen Constantine, the former India coach, and Stefan Tarkovič, ex‑Slovakia national team coach. The final decision will be ratified by the AIFF Executive Committee, which is scheduled to meet in the first week of August.

If appointed, Khalid Jamil will make history as the first Indian to take full‑time charge of the national team in the modern era. Known for his tactical acumen and ability to deliver results with limited resources, Jamil famously led Aizawl FC to a shock I‑League title in the 2016‑17 season. He later guided NorthEast United and Jamshedpur FC in the ISL, even taking Jamshedpur to the 2024‑25 Super Cup final.

AIFF officials believe that Jamil’s deep understanding of the Indian football ecosystem, combined with his proven record in developing domestic talent, makes him the ideal choice to lead the Blue Tigers into a new era.

The official announcement on August 1 could mark a turning point for Indian football, highlighting trust in homegrown coaching talent and signaling a new chapter for the national team.
