1. 4.0 Magnitude of Earthquake jolts Afganisthan

Kabul May 16,2025:4.0 magnitude of earthquake hits Afganisthan in the early morning hours of Friday around 00:47:40 IST. The main epicenter  was located approximately at a latitude of  about 36.56 degree North and longitude of 70.99 degree  East with a shallow depth of 120 kilometres . 

National centre for seismology has posted on x  ( twitter) that “EQ of M: 4.0, On: 16/05/2025 00:47:40 IST, Lat: 36.56 N, Long: 70.99 E, depth:120 km, Location:Afganisthan “.

Although the tremors occurs at a shallow depth  and has  intensified its impact in  surrounding areas, no   immediate reports of casualties or significant structural damage are  recorded . 

Authorities are closely  examining the situation, and local emergency teams have been deployed to monitor vulnerable regions. However , Residents are advised to remain cautious, especially in areas that are prone to aftershocks.

Afghanistan, which is located in a seismically active region, frequently experiences earthquakes, especially in its northeastern provinces. The government has reiterated the significance  of preparedness and has also advised all the citizens to follow official safety guidelines.
