New Delhi, May 31, 2025:

India concluded its campaign at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships on a high note, securing a total of 24 medals and finishing second in the overall medal tally, just behind China. On the final day, Indian athletes added six medals, three silver and three bronze, to their tally. Notably, javelin thrower Sachin Yadav made a memorable debut by clinching silver with a personal best throw of 85.16 meters.

The championships were held at the Gumi Civic Stadium in Gumi, South Korea. India’s final medal count stood at 8 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze. China topped the medal table with 32 medals, including 19 golds, while Japan secured 28 medals but finished below India due to a lower gold count.

India’s performance was marked by a blend of experienced athletes and emerging talents. Sachin Yadav’s silver in the javelin throw, achieved with a personal best, was a highlight. He expressed his elation, stating, “This is a proud moment for me and my country. Achieving a personal best here means a lot.”

The Indian contingent showcased strength across various disciplines, including sprints, relays, long-distance events, and field events. The final day’s haul of six medals underscored the team’s depth and consistency.

Officials from the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) lauded the athletes’ efforts. A senior AFI official said, “Our athletes have demonstrated resilience, spirit, and remarkable discipline. This is a big step forward for Indian athletics.”

India’s commendable performance at the championships provides momentum ahead of upcoming international events, including the Asian Games 2026 and the 2028 Olympic Games, marking this campaign as one of the most successful in recent years.
