The two sons of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan have appealed to US President Donald Trump for their father's release. Suleman Khan, 27, and Qasim Khan, 26, have appealed to the international community to 'rescue' Imran from a Pakistani jail. In fact, this is the first time that Imran's two sons, who are hidden from the public eye, have spoken out for their father's release.
Imran, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and former captain of the World Cup-winning cricket team, has been in jail since 2023 after being convicted in the Toshakhana corruption case. He is now in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Currently, there are more than 150 charges against the former Pakistani Prime Minister. Although his followers claim that every charge against the Tehreek-e-Insaf party chief is politically motivated. Imran's lawyers have repeatedly complained that he has been kept in extreme neglect in jail. In this context, the two sons have made a public appeal for their father's release for the first time.
Suleman and Qasim are British citizens. They live in London with their mother Jemima Goldsmith. In a recent interview, Qasim said, "We want the international community to take action (for Imran's release). And who else can be more significant than Trump in this regard." He also said that they want to talk to the US President about their father's release. In addition, Imran and his son have appealed to restore democracy in Pakistan. Suleman and Qasim's appeal to the Trump government, "We want support for freedom of speech and democracy. We appeal to everyone to be vocal for the release of our father. He is in the pit of death. Neither light reaches there, nor lawyers, nor doctors." Suleman's comment, "Through this message to the Trump administration, we will appeal to any government that supports freedom of speech and proper democracy to insist on the release of father (Imran). Especially by the most powerful leader in the world.''
Sulaiman and Qasim's mother accused the Shahbaz Sharif government of 'torturing' Imran in prison. She alleged that Imran is not allowed to seek help from lawyers. He is not allowed to meet any of his family members. In fact, the former prime minister is being kept in a dark cell. Even the electricity has been cut off there. Qasim has the same complaint as his mother. He said that their family wants the international community to pressure the current Pakistani government for the former Pakistani prime minister. In the words of the young man, ''They have deprived him (Imran) of even the minimum human rights. I am not saying this just because of my father, we want real democracy in Pakistan for the sake of the human rights of other political prisoners.''
