London May 20 2025: Nitasha Kaul, a British-Kashmiri professor at the University of Westminster, has claimed that her Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) was invalidated by Indian authorities over alleged anti-India activities.
Kaul posted the revocation notice on social media, stating that the government cited her writings and speeches as being hostile to India’s sovereignty and institutions.
Describing the cancellation as “vindictive” and “a bad faith example of transnational repression,” she alleged she is being penalised for her academic work on democratic and minority issues in India.
Earlier this year, Kaul was reportedly denied entry into India for a conference in Bengaluru. The Indian government also reserves the right to cancel OCI status under certain conditions, including activities deemed contrary to the interests of the country.
The Indian High Commission in London has been approached for comment.
